Free State Festival to feature panel discussion on fake news, other threats to journalism | Lawrence Journal-World

Members of the public will have a chance to ask real questions about the topic of fake news as the Free State Festival concludes this weekend in Lawrence.

The Journal-World is hosting a panel discussion on the topic of fake news and other threats to journalism at noon on Saturday at the Watkins Museum of History, 1047 Massachusetts St.

The event is titled “Enemy of the People? Newspaper Reporting in the Era of #FakeNews.” The panel includes four longtime journalists: Chad Lawhorn of the Journal-World; Tim Carpenter of the Topeka Capital-Journal; Dena Sattler of the Garden City Telegram; and Dave Helling of the Kansas City Star. Rob Karwath, a journalism instructor at the University of Kansas and general manager for the student-run University Daily Kansan will moderate the discussion. Read more …
