Free State Festival Postpones to 2021

In the interest of public health and safety, the Free State Festival has made the difficult decision to postpone its annual event until June 2021. The heart of the festival has always been watching films with you in dark theatres, sharing ideas with guests and neighbors, and building community through shared art experiences. The current limitations on public gatherings due to the Coronavirus pandemic make it necessary to save this special event for a time when we can all feel comfortable making those in person connections again.

Much thought and care has been made in planning this year’s Free State Festival and we are thrilled to share with you that the essence of our programming (including headliners John Waters and Boots Riley) will remain intact for our new dates in 2021. In the meantime, we look forward to finding new ways to connect with you through virtual programming, online screenings, and unique film events.

The entire team of the Free State Festival- from the organizers, community partners, filmmakers, volunteers, advisory board members and the staff of the Lawrence Arts Center- wish you and yours the very best in health, wellness and creativity through these unprecedented times.
