Short film program. Running time: 1 hour

This eclectic collection of comedies, dramas and episodic films celebrates the art of the pocket cinema. Themed goody bags make a fun bridge from screen to audience!  

 

The Incredible Brown NDN – Rodrick Pocowatchit (10 minutes)
An ordinary Joe decides to become the world’s first Native American superhero.

I Love You Moocho – Ermir M.B. (8 minutes)
Josie has overstayed her welcome at her brother Nathan’s house and his wife, Heather, has had enough.

From Scratch – Anthony Almonte (13 minutes)
A prison chef discusses his past and perfects an old recipe. 

Dusk Thorns – Lee Frazier Davis and David Evan Krebs (4 minutes)
In this stop-motion music video, a creature constructs itself and explores its world.

Every Quiet Moment – Lourdes Kalusha-Aguirre (9 minutes)
When Diana’s best friend invites her ex to the party, she looks for new ways for love.

The Square Root – Misti Boland and Jeremy Osbern (14 minutes)
A short form episodic series exploring memory and the small moments that make us who we are. Each chapter focuses on a different character during that split second before making the decision that will change their lives forever.

Pre-show experience:

Live music by Kirsten Paludan 8:15-8:45pm, art by Tonja Torgerson inside the gallery and puzzles by Breakout Lawrence!

Kirsten Paludan is a musician, actress, and composer who has collaborated on numerous local and national releases as a guest artist, and is a member of four bands. Paludan began her career as an actress, appearing in the films Ride with the Devil (1999/Ang Lee, dir.) and CSA:The Confederate States of America (2004/Kevin Wilmott, dir). A producer/director, as well, Paludan developed Cabaret du Monde(2017) and Cowboy Cabaret I & II (2015/2016) for the Lawrence Arts Center – a series of themed cabaret performances to feature her different musical projects and diverse performers from the region. She has also toured nationally with her opera singing sister and their ever evolving sister act – in January 2017, their show Music of the Mind premiered at the Lied Center of Kansas in Lawrence. Community focused and supported, Paludan is a vocal coach and private music teacher, and is a mentor/coach for River City Rock Camp.

ART:

Be sure to head inside the Cider Gallery to experience Tonja Torgerson’s Garden of Eden installation. Life-size figures grapple with the recognition of their mortality, prompting you to consider the frailty of the body and dwell on uncomfortable truths.

Event Details:

  • Doors open: 8pm for Puzzles by Breakout Lawrence / Music: 8:15pm / Screening time: 9pm
  • Chairs will be available on site, but lawn chairs and blankets are welcome.
  • Audience members will be socially distanced. Seating will be spaced out by festival personnel.
  • In the event of inclement weather, this film will move inside the Cider Gallery.
  • Pedestrian Cheese will be on site with cheese boards for purchase to accompany the themes of the film selections. The Cider Gallery will also have wine pairings for sale. Please do not bring in outside food or refreshments.
