Lawrence Talks presents an all new podcast, Philosophers at the Cinema! In this very special Free State Festival edition, host David Tamez is joined by Kansas City film critic Lonita Cook for a deep dive into John Waters’ Hairspray and an exploration into the philosophical ponderings of the movie-going experience.

Enjoy this podcast episode before the film screening of Hairspray, during your drive home from the cinema, or after sleeping in the next morning over a fine cup of coffee.

Philosophers at the Cinema Series Summary:

This series focuses on the timeless tendency for philosophers to ruin films held favorably by the general public. Philosophers often ruin our favorite films by pointing out a film’s logical inconsistencies, ethical dilemmas, and operating assumptions about human nature (among others). Hoping to channel this enduring aspect of doing philosophy, this series hopes to introduce philosophical topics by ruining your favorite films.
